Carbon (my chosen element)
Carbon's symbol is a 'C' on the periodic table. It's a non metalic element which has a atomic number of 6, is place in group number of 4 and is in the 2nd period. This means that Carbon has 4 electrons in it's outer energy level (since it in period 4) and has a total number of 2 shells (since it is placed in period 2). Carbon is an element that has 6 protons, which means it has 6 electrons as well.
Carbon has 15 known isotopes, going from Carbon-8 to Carbon-22. Carbon 12 and Carbon 13 are known to be stable. Carbon 14 is the only carbon radioisotopes that is found in nature, it's half life is 5700 years making it the longest lived radioisotope.

A Carbon is an ion when it loses or gains electrons, which also mean when it becomes positively or negatively charged.
Carbon is utilized for fuel as a part of the type of coal, crude oil, and methane gas. It is utilized to make a wide range of materials including plastics and alloys, for example, steel which is a combination of iron and carbon. It's even used for printers and painting by making dark ink.
Graphite is regularly used as a part of making batteries, brakes, and different types of oils (such as lubricants). It is likewise used to make the writing (dark) piece of pencils.
Diamonds are utilized to make fine gems and are viewed as the most precious of all the gemstones . Diamonds are likewise utilized for their hardness as a part of cutting devices and accurate instruments.

The age of minerals and fossils are determined using a technique called Carbon dating. This technique is executed by using a specific element which is Carbon 14. Carbon 14 is produced in the upper atmosphere through cosmic radiation. This is then absorbed by living biological material and is transported down the earth. When the scientists take the fossils, they look for carbon 14 on it, when they find carbon 14, since they know it takes 5730 years for the mass to get to 50% they do the math and find out how old the fossil actually is.
